Event Ideas: Hawaiian Themed Party

Hawaiian themed event

Head to the tiki bar and get your pina coladas ordered! It’s time for our latest themed event idea here at Finer Things Entertainment. In previous posts, we have suggested Black & White themed parties and Autumn event ideas. However, in this post we’re looking at something with a more tropical feel. The fabulous island of Hawaii has given us so much culture in the past, and it makes for a fantastic themed event idea. This is because you can create anything from a super laid back fun event to a more elegant summer wedding theme. The Finer Things team have been busy coming up with ideas for a Hawaiian themed event, and we’re here to share the best ones with you! Check them out below.

The Music

While it may be tricky to choose entirely Hawaiian themed music for your event, you may choose to accept the challenge! There are a number of options for the music here. Firstly, you could mix in some Hawaiian themed songs into a more general playlist. Or, you could go for it and choose entirely themed traditional Hawaiian music throughout the event. Here are some suggestions for Hawaiian style music below:

  • “Hawaii Five-O” – The Ventures
  • “Harleys in Hawaii” – Katy Perry
  • “Hawaii” – The Beach Boys
  • “Rock-A-Hula Baby” – Elvis Presley
  • “Rhythm Of The Night” – DeBarge
  • “Happy Hawaii” – Abba
  • “Club Tropicana” – Wham
  • “Loco In Acapulco” – The Four Tops
  • “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” – Rupert Holmes
  • “Copacabana (At The Copa)” – Barry Manilow

Hawaii has also produced some great artists over the years. If you didn’t want entirely Hawaiian themed songs, then you could choose anything from the following Hawaiian natives:

  • Bruno Mars
  • Nicole Scherzinger
  • Jack Johnson
  • Israel IZ Kamakawiwo`ole

If you’re looking for an entertainment service to handle the music, then remember to get in touch with us at Finer Things, as we have an entire playlist of Hawaiian style music for any event.

The Outfits

If you’re planning on throwing a Hawaiian themed event then, of course, Hawaiian shirts are a must! Other options include tropical prints, flower leis, and beach attire. One of the main benefits of the Hawaiian theme is that it’s so recognisable, so it makes styling your outfit really easy. On the other hand, if you are planning a Hawaiian or tropical themed wedding, then you could make use of white and cream colours for a more sophisticated look. Have a look at some options below:

The Decorations

A recent trend with a number of our clients has been the addition of a balloon hoop or stand at their party or event. This makes for a great decoration option, as well as an eye catching backdrop for photographs. At Finer Things Entertainment, we always recommend O’Air Balloons for any balloon arrangements if you are local to the Colchester area in the UK. As you can see from these summer themed ballon arrangements below, O’Air Balloons always deliver the perfect backdrop:

For Hawaiian or tropical themed weddings, there are lots of flower arrangements you could use. We particularly love orchid centerpieces such as this one:

Other more fun Hawaiian themed decorations include inflatable palm trees, flamingos and pineapples. You could also feature some Aloha signs, Tiki pinatas, tiki torches and some paper lantern garlands. Furthermore, you could thrown in some fun Hawaiian games such as hula hooping and limbo. Finally, don’t forget to add a tiki bar hut and a wacky sunglasses photobooth for a cool addition to your event.

Food & Drink

Another great aspect of a Hawaiian themed event is the number of options you have regarding food and drink. To begin with, your guests will love the pina coladas you’re planning on serving them! Hawaii is also famous for a number of refreshing tropical cocktails featuring plenty of rum and coconut – make sure you search for those on the internet. For non alcoholic options, try some smoothies or a punch bowel.

For your food options, you’ve got kebab skewers and various salads for the savoury portions. Of course, you’ve also got the famous Hawaiian pizza. You could even go for a full barbeque with Hawaiian style burgers and hotdogs. To appease those guests with a sweet tooth, you can try pineapple upside-down cake, cupcakes and fruit platters.

Final Thoughts

Hawaiian style themed events are a fun option for any wedding, party or corporate event you may be planning on hosting. Don’t forget, Finer Things Entertainment are the perfect option for some laid back acoustic sets to set the vibe. We can take requests, and learn a couple of Hawaiian themed songs as well. We can also add all your suggestions to our DJ setlist as the party continues into the night. Get in touch and we’d love to make your Hawaiian themed event special.
